Winter 2013 - Art and Design
Abstract Line Design - Color Pencil
Our first major drawing project focused on the application of the elements and principles of design into an abstract design. Students were expected to use at least 12 types of line in order to create a unified composition with an obvious focal point.
Contour Line - Watercolor Painting
We studied continuous contour line drawing in order to observe the contours within forms. We also learned about Georgia O'Keeffe and her large, detailed compositions which depicted natural forms. Students then used the contour line technique to create watercolor paintings.
Visual Journals
In their weekly visual journal projects, students explore personal themes and experiment with materials. Non-traditional materials and methods are highly encouraged. The emphasis of visual journals is self expression.
