Abstract Line Design
Our first major drawing project focused on the application of the elements and principles of design into an abstract design. Students were expected to use at least 12 types of line in order to create a unified composition with an obvious focal point.
Continuous Contour Line
The students learned the continuous contour line drawing technique. They carefully observed objects, then showed the internal and external details with one connected line.
Continuous Contour - Watercolor Painting
We studied continuous contour line drawing in order to observe the contours within forms. We also learned about Georgia O'Keeffe, and her large, detailed compositions which depicted natural forms. Students then used the contour line technique to create watercolor paintings.
Photorealism
We studied the artist Chuck Close, and his use of the grid technique to transfer photographs into realistic works of art. Students took their own digital photos and transferred them into shaded pencil drawings.
